Usability Testing: Phase One

Our main objective was to determine the principle issues that users encountered when setting up the Qube and configuring some of its components. Principally, we used these testing sessions to inform and guide our creation of the quick start poster. They also served to lay a solid foundation for task scenarios for the second round of testing.

Pre-test, users reviewed Qube marketing materials and answered questions about their perceptions of the Qube and its ease of use. These answers were indexed with exit questions which contrasted user's expectations about how "friendly" the Qube was, and then, how easy it actually was to set up and configure. These expectations were drastically changed after performing the installation tasks. While the physical design and "packaging" of the Qube connotes approachability, the actual configuration was frustrating.
